Junky Day Pre-halloween....Added photos....of costumes
This is a junky day. Oh, no worries, I am going to hit the half-off sale at Goodwill. I know, it has been a long time since I hit that sale...like...maybe a whole week. I am obsessed with finding a coat for my costume. The whole quest that has started this whole process, remember? It all started with my search for the perfectly broken-in brown boot for Mad Hatter? Then the Blue Suede Shoes made it home with me, the next week, their brown counterparts, this week, I am looking for other parts, since I took a break to film. Something kind of sick in my obsession with Johnny Depp characters, I am using the holiday as an excuse to dress up like one of them. Ok, I don't buy into Halloween, or all that it is..but what other Holiday can you just be in character and be appreciated as well? I think we should do this 3 x a year...Holidays to dress up and be someone else. "National Walk in Someone Else's Shoes Day" Yes? Oh, don't be a fuddy-duddy--enjoy getting into another character for a day! It is enlightening!
This could take a whole turn for compassion if done well...Maybe i will take that on...next year : )
We once had an actress come to our church, who made an amazing impact doing just that. She dressed up like a homeless woman, arrived at the church early, and just hung out outside the church. She did the whole thing up, really quirky personality (crazy) and begged, asked for help. It was very grieving to see that most people ignored her on their way in, or just refused to help her. She used this in her message, and it really made an impact. Also, it is very eye-opening to see what it is like in someone else's shoes.
Dressing up like a character, or stereotype is a great lesson for all of us young and old. If you are invited to a party, and you hate this holiday, think about it from another perspective. Think about dressing up to experience someone else's grief, affliction, etc, or be a character you would never think of being, or just challenge yourself to be in character of some kind, to get out of your little box and live a little! Have fun, and "be" the character...it makes the party more fun, and everyone will enjoy your interpretation of the character. Hey, you could even be Elvis and wear some rockin' Blue Suede Shoes!! BUT: Don't let anyone step on them!!! Happy Autumn!
